This time of years is always challenging for me with the end of the year and looking forward to the New Year. We seem to be settling in to the winter routine of the cows and the cleaning and bedding them down. It seems that the feed we are into right now is a bit low in quality and the cows are not readily eating it up. I did some research on how to mitigate that situation and the solution was to drench the feed with a mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar and molasses. The vinegar is great for helping the cow to convert the feed into more available feed by regulating the rumen and the molasses works as an additional energy source allowing them to put on gains in the winter months. Unfortunately like most new things it takes them a bit before their rumen is adjusted to the new system so it may take them a bit to get adjusted. I did find a good source of organic molasses and apple cider vinegar so I know I have the good stuff. I’ll let you know how this whole thing turns out in a few weeks. I’m like a father looking over his kids trying to get them to eat their food because its “good for them”. Most parents know how well that works some times.
