Sorry for the laps in news from the farm. It’s been super busy and it got away from me. We are on our third time around the farm in grazing and rotating the cows through the pasture. The plan is to end up at the barn around the first of October and then they go in to the open barn for the winter. My pasture water system is not frost proof so once the temperature gets down below freezing, my pasture grazing stops.
The garden is winding down with crops like shallots being harvest and dried for winter sales. I’ve got two more batches of carrots and a big batch of beets coming yet this fall plus lots of arugula, leaf lettuce and spinach. The deer ate the first cutting of spinach so I will not have any this week but I got them covered with some insect netting so hopefully they will stay away. I have two beds of sugar peas and one bed of shelling peas that might make it if the deer leave them alone too. So goes gardening. We butchered a batch of beautiful meat birds this past Tuesday and they came out superb.
We are running a special on our broth bones this weekend, Buy-one Get-one FREE, mix and match beef or chicken. Come in and stock up for the winter season. Nothing better than a delicious nutrient dense bone broth on a cold or sunny day. See you at market!
