The weather lately has given me the feeling that fall is coming soon and time to think about cows going to the barn soon. Today and tomorrow we will be doing our second cutting of baleage for the cows for feed in the winter months. This is our second cutting and it is usually the better of the two cuttings because about the time we do the first cutting, the plant is trying to go to seed and the nutritional feed component is not as complex. After the first cutting, the plant does not try to go to seed and just produces foliage which is more dense with nutrients. I usually save the second cutting for later in the winter when the cows can use the better feed.
