Spring Cleaning: Part One

When the snow melts and the cool air begins to warm, it means its time to shake off the winter blues and get ready for sunnier days! But wait. Where’s the sun? And now that I think about it, it’s actually been kinda chilly here on the farm. We’ve definitely been hit with rain and cooler days (Western NY spring, at it’s finest) but that hasn’t stopped us from getting outside and breaking ground for spring projects. The bird song is so cheerful at morning’s first light, that it’s hard to stay in bed and the smell of rain beckons you to venture outside, (That smell? It’s called petrichor and you can read more about it here).

My first project of spring was to tame our raspberry patch. We love raspberries in this family. I remember summer days with my brothers, filled with black cap hunts at our house in Middlesex. Black caps and cream or black cap pancakes. Ahhhh, memories.

Check out a before picture of the patch:

The canes are so happy. I know this because they are bursting with new growth. We even got the purple raspberries in the ground, that were gifted to us from a friend! I see raspberry pie and ice cream in our future! Don’t you? If only they were ready intake for the rhubarb.

Next project: The weeding of the Hoop House…

Aw, this was a very good post. Taking the time and actual effort to generate a
great article? but what can I say? I procrastinate a whole
lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
