As the summer is winding down, the urgency to get certain projects done becomes more real. Today I finished installing the gate after my stored forage debacle this spring that wiped it out. The cows are on the last go around for the season getting twice as much pasture because the grass is slowing with shorter day lengths. They tend to graze differently with larger spaces. More linear and less trampling. It’s fun to watch. The barn clean-out is high on the list as jobs that need attention. Once the temperature starts to freeze, the cows will be brought in and fed stored forages. A different work load. It’s fun to drive by the baleage and smell the sweet aroma coming from the bales. The seasons they are a changing.
