This past week I have been feeling a mix between relief and accomplishment. I usually carry a list of the most pertinent things I need to be trying to get accomplished in the day or week. Some times an item will stay on the list for a while. Recently I’ve been able to get some of those items completed which gives me a big sigh of relief and a feeling of accomplishment knowing they are complete as I head in to the winter season.
Last Monday I finally completed getting the barn prepared to house the cows for winter. What that entailed was things like hanging two big barn doors, running all the perimeter containment lines, detail and lay down their bedding, weld and then install the main gate and then mowing the containment yard where the cows like to lay in the sunshine. Getting all that done on the weekend and then moving the cows down to the barn before sunset gave me comfort.
Watch the cows go into their winter home!
Some of the other things being accomplished was completing second cutting of baleage for winter feed, sowing some ground cover into the garden beds for winter cover, buying and then receiving a 40’ trailer for much needed storage and turning both of my garden compost piles I use for the garden beds. We are starting to receive more seasonal weather now but the “to do” list is getting shorter so my personal pressure is easing.
We still have lots of fresh produce coming from the garden so make sure you take advantage of the next four weeks of markets. Lettuce, arugula, spinach, carrots, torpedo onions, colorful peppers, beets, tomatoes and the list goes on and on. We also have 100% grass fed beef, organic chickens and non GMO pork.
Stop by and say hi!
