This Sunday August 11, 2024 we are having our 6th Annual Heron Trail Run 5k for charity where we invite everyone to come run or walk the beautiful trails here at the Heron. This annual 5K was created in honor of Dave McDonald, who is remembered with a smile by all whose lives he touched with his kindness and friendship. His intensely positive energy was beautiful, warm, genuine and extended to everyone he met. Dave was a father, a talented musician, a runner, a giver and a true friend to all.
Dave loved to run, he loved music, and he loved The Heron! Over the years the Heron Trail Run 5K has been an ever evolving day of family-friendly fun with music and laughter. We’ve donated all of the proceeds to local charities each year including Infinity Visual and Performing Arts, WRFA-LP a listener supported, non-commercial, low power FM radio station provided as a public service by the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, a college fund for Dave’s daughter Finn Smith and a memorial fund for Lexy Hughes.
This year, for the first time registration is totally FREE! We are encouraging and accepting donations as all proceeds are going the Chautauqua County Humane Society who focuses their efforts on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pets; keeping them safe, providing shelter, care and nutrition, and helping them lead happy, healthy lives in Chautauqua County NY!! We even have the option for participants to create their own fundraiser link to ask for donations from their family and friends to support this cause in a bigger way. The person that raises the most money by the time the 5K is over will win their choice of Airbnb for 1 night here at The Heron!
The 5K starts at 10am and we are going to have an afternoon of free live music, kids games (open to kids and adults of all ages), and food for sale! We are welcoming friends old and new to the Heron stage!
We welcome new and experienced runners and walkers of all ages! On-site registration is available Sunday morning and we also are inviting guests to enjoy a quiet night under the starts by camping over this Saturday so that they can wake up here, refreshed and ready for all the fun on Sunday.
