The Heron welcomed both community leaders, neighbors and friends celebrated this exciting new addition with a public ribbon cutting ceremony on May 28, 2026.

The Heron Farm & Event Center, a long-standing cultural and tourism destination in Chautauqua County, is proud to announce the opening of its newly constructed campground bathhouse for the 2026 season. This highly anticipated addition introduces modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, marking a major milestone in the evolution of the 400-acre farm, campground,
and event venue.
For over 30 years, The Heron has welcomed thousands of visitors each year for The Great Blue Heron Music Festival. During the pandemic, The Heron has expanded its offerings to include weddings, camping, retreats, and nature-based experiences. With roots as a campground dating back to the 1960s, the land has long served as a place where generations gather, connect, and return year after year.
The Heron welcomed community leaders, neighbors and friends to celebrate the opening of the new campground bathhouse with a public ribbon cutting ceremony on May 28.

The new bathhouse represents a significant investment in visitor comfort and accessibility, allowing The Heron to welcome a broader range of guests—including families, couples, and group retreats—who seek a balance of nature and modern amenities.

“This project has been years in the making,” said Julie Rockcastle, co-owner of The Heron. “It’s been built as a community effort. Our patrons, family and friends have truly helped bring this to life.”
Since 2019, more than $40,000 has been raised through personalized commemorative brick donations, many of which will be featured just outside the bathhouse itself. An additional $70,000 was raised through the recent “Final Push to the First Flush” matching campaign, demonstrating continued community support behind the project. To date, over $330,000 has been invested through private funding and grassroots contributions.
The bathhouse is expected to significantly enhance overnight stays and extended vacations throughout the region, contributing to the broader Chautauqua County economy. By improving core infrastructure, The Heron anticipates increased bookings across its campground, Airbnb and Hipcamp stays, weddings, and retreats—bringing more visitors to local businesses, restaurants, and attractions. The opening comes alongside a full 2026 season of events at The Heron, including:
•33rd Annual Great Blue Heron Music Festival
•40th Reunion of the Great Peace March
•The Great Rhythm Revival
• Heron Horse Equine Trail Challenges
• Dave McDonald Heron 5K Trail Run, proceeds for Centaur Strides of CHQ County
In addition to events, visitors can enjoy The Heron’s year-round Farm Store, offering grass-fed beef, certified organic chicken, shiitake mushrooms, and prepared foods, as well as its scenic campground and miles of trails. The bathhouse project reflects The Heron’s ongoing commitment to stewardship of the land, community connection, and creating meaningful, accessible
experiences rooted in nature, music, and creativity.
