Creating fun in the Finger Lakes

This past weekend Julie and I were able to spend a couple of days with the grand-kids in Naples, NY building a swing set. I was able to find brackets for the corners and center of the main pole plus swings at Home Depot.  I purchased 4×4 pressure treated legs and a center main beam for the supports and we traveled on Sunday to do the construction. I had a basic plan and with the help of my son Skye, we did the assembly.

As any great plan goes, I didn’t actually look at the supports and after it was too late noticed I had purchased the wrong size pole for the center beam. It was suppose to be a 4×6 not a 4×4. It ended up that Home Depot was open on Sunday so problem solved. When I got there they did not have a 4×6-16’ beam. What to do now? I got a 6×6-16’ beam and figured we’ll just cut it down. Easier said than done but it did get finally get cut to size. With all the extra work and fuss I was not able to complete the project on Sunday as planned.

With the help of Julie, we finished the project on Monday and hopefully the kids have gotten a chance to swing on the set. They were at school on Monday but got to come home to a completed swing set waiting for them to swing high in the air!
