Time away from the farm is always a reset for me. Before I left I made sure all my seeds, root crops and cuttings were ordered as well as setting up my seed sowing schedule using the calendar to designate the actual sowing dates every week from here to September. That way, when the week comes, I don’t have to go back and check to see what needs to be sowed. I then left it all behind me and brought a thick book titled, “Nourishment”, with me to block everything that is usually demanding of me out for some real relaxation. In the end, I know this is the one and only time I can escape from life and not have to think about what is about to happen as spring unfolds in the coming months.
As I sit here waiting to board my flight back to reality, I’m already consumed with thoughts of what to prioritize when I get up tomorrow. Long season plants need to be sown like shallots and onions along with a host of herbs that will be used to sell fresh herbs during the season. It’s always an exciting time for me because the garden is my happy place. I always enjoy the challenge that comes from seed starting and transplanting all the way to prepping the planting beds with compost giving the plants the best start with the nutrient charge the compost gives them. I’ll keep you informed along the way so you can take this journey along with me as we head through the growing season.
